6 DAYS DESERT TOUR

 

DAY 1: Europe - Tripoli

Arrival at Tripoli Airport and welcome by your English speaking guide.
Dinner and overnight stay in hotel El Kabir (4*), Bab Al Bhar  (4*) or similar.

DAY 2 : Tripoli - Sabha

Today you visit the capital of Libya. TRIPOLI, called OEA in antiquity, was founded by the Phoenicians around 500 BC and is Tripoli’s single ancient city that has been continuously occupied since that time. You start your visit in the museum of Tripoli that houses one of the finest collections of classical art in the Mediterranean region.
Lunch in a typical restaurant in the town.
After lunch, you have a walk through the ancient village, the Medina, with its most important monument, the Arc of Marcus Aurelius. Visit of the Gurgi Mosque, the Algeria Square and Italian colonial part of the city with its arcades. Here you can enjoy a delicious tea with mint.
In the evening, transfer to the airport for your flight to Sabha.
Dinner and overnight stay in hotel Waha (3*)

DAY 3: Sebha – Wadi Metkandouch – Dunes of Murzuq  

After breakfast you meet your drivers and continue your way with the 4WD vehicle through the beautiful landscapes of Fezzan to the oasis of GERMA, the first capital of the Garamantes.  You visit the local museum.
After picnic under the acacias, you continue your way to WADI METKHANDOUCH. It has one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric rock carvings in the world. This open-air gallery contains hundreds of carvings of animals.
Further to the sand dunes of MURZUQ. This beautiful scenery is the camping place for your night in the desert.

DAY 4: Dunes of Murzuq – Germa – Erg Ubari

After breakfast you leave the dunes of Murzuq and discover the beautiful landscapes around the lacs of ERG UBARI.
Picnic under the acacia’s. In the afternoon you visit the old town of GERMA, the first capital of the Garamantes. You find here the only ruin of the rich civilization of the Garamantes.
You cross the dunes of ERG UBARI and continue your way to the desert lake of UMM AL-MAA, a real blue pearl surrounded by green palms, amid the golden sand.
Dinner and overnight stay in the Touareg Lodge .

DAY 5: Erg Ubari - Sabha -Tripoli  

Today, you discover the incredibly beautiful landscapes around the lake of MAFHOU and GABROUN ( possibility to have a swim). The existence of the lakes in the middle of ERG UBARI explains the presence of an amazing people in this region, the Daouadas.
They survived by arid agriculture and fishing on small shellfish in the lake.
You visit also the dry lake of MANDARA.
Lunch en route.
At the end of the day return to Sabha, where you have dinner in a local restaurant.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Tripoli.
Overnight stay in hotel El Kabir (4*), Bab Al Bhar (4*) or similar.

DAY 6: Tripoli - Europe

Early departure to the airport to return to Europe.

Information about the bivouac:
Included:
- Canadian tent (1 or 2 persons per tent),mattress and blanket,
- breakfast with coffee or tea
- around 10:30 snack
- lunch-picnic
- dinner
- traditional tea around the campfire
- mineral water for personal use
- limited water for toilet

Personal equipment:
sunglasses, binocular, cap or hat, high protection sun-cream , miners lamp
Warm pullover and jacket during winter time

Not included in the program:

- International flight
- Drinks at lunch and dinner, (other than water)
- Personal expenses
- Tips local guide, drivers,…

This is a standard program and can be adapted all time.
